Minimum Wage Rally, Review of MSA Bill Planned

A group of faith leaders and anti-poverty advocates will speak at a minimum wage rally on Monday with the governor and the Baltimore mayor.

They'll meet at St. Vincent de Paul in Baltimore at 11 a.m. Speakers include leaders of Catholic, Protestant and Jewish congregations, plus representatives of groups that help the poor and homeless.

Gov. Martin O'Malley is pushing to raise Maryland's minimum wage to $10.10.

Also, on Tuesday, the House will review a bill that could cancel this year's Maryland School Assessments. The tests no longer correspond to what students learn in classrooms, as schools have adopted Common Core curriculum since 2011.

Federal law requires yearly tests in math and reading, but under the bill, Maryland would seek a waiver. Next year, schools will administer a new test.
