Metro's First Female Bus Driver Evicted

Two-time cancer survivor looking for place to live

Metro’s first female bus driver, also a two-time cancer survivor, is looking for a place to live.

Sarah Boulware-Owens, 79, was evicted from her home at the McCollough Canaanland Apartments Tuesday.

“I knew I should have paid rent, because my mother always said, ‘Baby, pay your rent if you don’t pay nothing else,’” Boulware-Owens said.

She lived at the apartment complex since 1999 and worked for Metro for 25 years.

“Everything I’ve worked for is out here on the street,” she said. “I tried some friends, but nobody had money.”

Boulware-Owens said she spent all of her money on alternative medicine. Now all of her belongings are lined up on the curb.

“I value everything I’ve got because I worked for it and paid for it,” she said.

She said she’s going to find a truck to put her things in storage and then look for a new place to live.

United House of Prayer for All People, which owns the apartment complex, did not comment on the eviction.
