In D.C., the Metropolitan Police Department’s newest recruits bring a lifetime of experience to the job.
An officer sings the Star Spangled Banner as police chief Cathy Lanier swears in a new crop of officers. But these graduates are a bit different from the typical class of cadets.
They’re members of the Senior Citizens Police Academy, a program that teaches retirees about the department. Assistant Chief Diane Groomes says the new graduates will act as ambassadors to their communities.
