Metrobus Driver Fired Following Pedestrian Accident

Jogging House staffer struck by bus

WASHINGTON -- Metro's general manager had his contract extended Thursday, but one of the Metro employees who has made him look bad recently is getting her walking papers.

The transit agency fired 43-year-old Carla Proctor -- the bus driver involved in a serious pedestrian accident Sept. 3.

Proctor was driving an empty bus when she hit a female jogger in a crosswalk at the corner of Florida and Connecticut avenues near Dupont Circle.

Court records show Proctor was involved in at least two on-the-job accidents in the past seven years before this month's incident and has been issued at least five traffic tickets since January.

The jogger, 30-year-old Amanda Mahnke of Northwest, works for U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wash.
