Metro's been making a big deal of its plan to eliminate paper transfers, a move that took effect Sunday, but it left out one detail. It won't accept paper transfers from other area transit agencies.
Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato told News4 that Metro has been in communication with area transit agencies to coordinate the shift.
Here’s a list of those who are on board:
- Montgomery County’s Ride On
- The City of Falls Church's GEORGE Bus
- Fairfax County's Fairfax Connector
- Arlington County's Arlington Transit (ART)
Ride On and ART will also give SmarTrip card users another upgrade: riders now have three hours to transfer when boarding the first bus, up from two hours.
Meanwhile, at least one agency is using the change to add to its bottom line.
Fairfax Connector's fare is increasing from $1.00 to $1.25 when using a SmarTrip card, and from $1.00 to $1.35 when using cash.
