Metro Board Approves $2.5B Budget for 2012

Metro’s board of directors approved a $2.5 billion budget for the upcoming 2012 fiscal year on Thursday.

The new budget goes in to effect July 1.

Despite a $66 million deficit in Metro’s operating budget, the new financial plans did not include any major rail fare hikes.

Metro will however increase bus-to-rail and rail-to-bus transfers by 50 cents on some bus routes near Anacostia and Congress Heights.

The new plans will also create a bus route between the Pentagon and Mark Center in Alexandria, Va.
