Metro's Finance Committee Approves Fare Hike

Fare increases could begin on July 1

Another Metro fare hike is likely to occur in the coming months.

Metro’s finance committee took the first steps in approving a fare increase that could kick in on July 1.

The fare hike comes at an interesting time for Metro, as it has just released a new survey to the public. The transit agency is asking for feedback from riders in exchange for the chance to win a free SmarTrip card.

The changes could increase peak Metro fares by 5.7%. However, Metro would eliminate peak-of-the-peak surcharges. There would be an additional $1.00 surcharge for non-SmarTrip card users. Metro would also increase bus fares by $0.10.

Metro is also considering multi-ride unlimited fast passes in day, week, or monthly increments.
Full approval for the fare increase could come at the end of April.
