Metro Transit Police said they arrested a Maryland man for stealing more than $10,000 worth of copper wire from Metro facilities.
Police said they spent months gathering evidence against James Mulcahey III of Mechanicsville, Md., who worked for a Metro electrical contractor.
He stole copper from Metro property in Maryland several times between June and November, police said. Mulcahey would then sell the copper for cash to a company in Charles County, where he was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly making a sale.
He's charged with felony theft.
Police said they haven't determined the exact value of the stolen copper but it's believed to be more than $10,000.
