Methadone Clinic Staying Put Near Schools … for Now

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- A methadone clinic is staying in its location of 20 years for at least a little while longer, the Montgomery County Council ruled.

The clinic neighbors Rockville High School and Meadow Hall Elementary School and has been upsetting some neighborhood residents for two decades.

County Executive Ike Leggett gave into the complaints and allocated $2.3 million in his budget proposal to move the clinic to a leased space in a commercial area, WTOP reported. The Council, however, decided that they don't want to have to move the clinic again in the future and should find a spot for it in a county-owned building instead.

Council President Phil Andrews suggested that building might be the Montgomery County Police Department's headquarters in Rockville once the police move to its new digs in Gaithersburg, WTOP reported.
