A Maryland woman has been sentenced to up to five years in prison for child neglect.
Media outlets report that 24-year-old Jasmine K. Dawkins of Waldorf, Md., was sentenced Thursday in Berkeley County Circuit Court.
A jury convicted Dawkins in November of two child neglect counts and one count of providing false information to medical personnel. Jurors found Dawkins not guilty of death of a child by parent, guardian or custodian by child abuse.
The charges stem from the New Year's Day 2012 death of 3-year-old Kaiwon Connelley.
Police say the boy suffered a fractured skull and other injuries.
The boy's father, 22-year-old James N. Mauldin of Martinsburg, is scheduled to stand trial on March 4.
