Maryland Nightclub Owners Enter Guilty Pleas

Prosecutor: Dance club where shooting occurred was illegal

The owners of a Prince George's County nightclub where a fatal shooting took place last year have pleaded guilty in the case.

A woman was killed outside the MSG nightclub in Capitol Heights last summer and a man was shot and wounded.

On Wednesday, two owners of the club agreed to plead guilty to violating a county law that prohibits illegal dance hall operations.

“They were notified in May (2011) that they were unlicensed and were to shut down. They continued to operate, and a murder occurred at that establishment,” Prince George’s County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said. “Even though we encourage business in the county, we will not stand by and have any individual operate a dance club that causes death, destruction and violence in our community.”

The club owners received a six-month suspended sentence and probation.

The nightclub was shut down last year.
