A Maryland woman is dead after the pickup truck she was driving collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 15 in Loudoun County early Saturday morning.

Barbara Whitener, 27, of Olney, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which took place shortly before 8:00 a.m. approximately one mile south of Harmony Church Road.

Authorities say that Whitener's Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north on Route 15 when it drifted across the center line and collided with the tractor-trailer.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Richard Poole of Zebulon, North Carolina, was treated for minor injuries at Landsdowne Hospital.

Investigators say that Whitener was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. An investigation by the Virginia State Police is ongoing.
