Man accused of punching mascot fired

WASHINGTON -- A District bus driver accused of punching McGruff the Crime Dog has been fired by Metro.
 

Shawn Brim, who police said stopped his Metro bus, got out and punched the mascot in the face, was fired by Metro on Friday. He had been on administrative leave since the Feb. 28 incident.
 

Police Officer Tyrone Hardy, who was in the McGruff costume, suffered a swollen cheek in the incident.
 

Brim, 38, was charged with assault.
