Maudine Cooper, Greater Washington Urban League CEO, Retires

After 23 years with the Greater Washington Urban League, Maudine Cooper stepped down Friday evening.

Cooper has worked with the organization since 1990, advocating for social justice in the D.C. region. D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray presented Cooper with the D.C. Medal of Honor at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

Under Cooper's leadership, the Urban League more than doubled its program offerings, launched a young professionals auxiliary and moved into a new building in Columbia Heights. The organization offers education, training, affordable housing and much more to 50,000 D.C. residents each year.
