Maryland is launching a campaign to help prevent child identity theft.
Attorney General Brian Frosh will join Maryland hospital representatives on Tuesday to make the announcement in Baltimore.
They will be joined by the state chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and state Del. Craig Zucker.
Zucker, a Montgomery County Democrat, sponsored legislation in 2012 to help prevent child identity theft. It resulted in a law that allows parents to take the step of freezing their child's credit at any time.
The problem of identity theft is compounded for children. That's because they usually don't become aware they are victims until they are older, when they apply for a credit card or a loan to buy a car.
