A Maryland volunteer firefighter and Marine who was killed in Afghanistan earlier this month was buried in Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday.
Marine Staff Sgt. Christopher Slutman was killed by a roadside bomb while he was riding in a convoy in Afghanistan on April 8. He was one of three American service members killed in the bombing.
Slutman was a married father of three young daughters and a life member of the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department in Prince George's County. He served with the department for 19 years.
"Through this trying time, we will remember Chris for the father, husband, brother, son, and friend that he was, the moral character he displayed daily, and the courage and conviction to serve his fellow Americans, both at home and abroad," a previous news release from Kentland Volunteer Fire Chief Oleg Pelekhaty said.
Additionally, Slutman was a 15-year member of New York City Fire Department, serving in the Bronx. On Friday, mourners paid their respects to Slutman at St. Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
