Maryland Trooper Struck by Car While Assisting Arrest

Maryland police said a trooper was injured after being struck by a car while on duty.

Police said First Sgt. John Beville, a 14-year veteran of the Maryland State Police, was assisting with the arrest of an armed robbery suspect when he was struck by a 62-year-old man on Friday. Beville was taken by helicopter to Shock Trauma, where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Beville saw the robbery suspect on the shoulder of Route 404, running east, and chased him across the road on foot. Police said Beville was still in the road when the passenger side of a 2012 Nissan pickup truck struck him as it was driving by.

They said the driver stayed on the scene, and the suspect was taken into custody.
