Maryland Teenager, Talented Athlete, Dead After Being Shot Behind Apartments

"Just a great young man, high spirits. Always made you laugh," the 16-year-old victim's former football coach said

A Maryland teenager died after being shot behind an apartment building in Takoma Park, police say.

Police found 16-year-old Kevin Wilson in a parking lot behind Belford Towers apartments on New Hampshire Avenue after 7 p.m. on Monday. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital, where he died a few hours later.

"Just a great young man, high spirits. Always made you laugh," said Jarvis Thomas, Wilson's former football coach. "That's one thing I can say about Kevin; he always had us laughing."

Wilson was a rising junior at Montgomery Blair High School. A talented athlete, he was the captain of the Maryland Seahawks traveling football team two years ago.

Thomas said Wilson had a bright future ahead of him.

"He played basically every position: quarterback, running back — [he] was basically one of the star players on the team," Thomas said.

Police are working to establish suspects and motive in the case. They encourage anyone with information in the investigation to call 1-866-411-TIPS for a cash reward.
