‘They Shot My Baby': Maryland Teen Shot, Killed While Walking Home

The victim graduated from high school last year with honors

A Waldorf, Maryland, teen who helped his mom during her struggle with breast cancer and graduated with honors is dead after someone shot him while he walked home from a friend's house.

Walter Eugene Thomas, 18, was found dead on a bike path off of Freemantle Court after midnight Tuesday, the Charles County Sheriff's Office said.

Thomas' mother, Shenna Foster, told News4 she had four sons and says he was her youngest.

"Why? Why would you take my baby? What'd he do to you? What did he do to you?" she said.

She said he was close with her and was there for her with words of support and love when she fought breast cancer. He even sported a pink shirt.

"He was always with me," Foster said.

"It's unbelievable."

Investigators said they are looking into whether the killing is connected to another shooting that happened three days before about a half mile away in the same Waldorf neighborhood.

Authorities said the 23-year-old victim in Sunday night's shooting on Amber Leaf Court was not fatally injured.

Anyone with information in either case is asked to call Charles County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS, the sheriff's office said in a post on Facebook.
