Maryland Teacher Dies After Suffering Medical Emergency In Front of Students

A Rockville middle school teacher died Thursday after suffering a medical emergency as she was teaching students in the classroom.

Deanna Perucci was an English teacher at Herbert Hoover Middle School. Principal Dr. YM Kim said in a statement that Perucci was kind and committed to others.

Perucci was teaching students in the classroom Thursday morning when she collapsed. The school announced later that she died.

The school didn't detail the nature of the medical emergency.

"[Perucci] was a wonderful teacher that loved teaching at Hoover and cared deeply for our students," Kim said in the statement.

Students who were present in the classroom already have been given access to support resources, Kim said. The school also directly contacted their family members.

A team of counselors was set to join the school Friday to provide counseling services for all students.
