Maryland State Police Cruiser Hit by Alleged Drunken Driver

A Maryland State Police trooper was injured when his cruiser was struck by an alleged drunken driver early Sunday morning.

Police said Trooper Kamil Koziol was conducting a traffic stop on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway at Maryland Route 450 (Annapolis Road) around 1 a.m. As he and the vehicle he was pulling over slowed down, a truck struck the back of the trooper’s cruiser.

The driver of the truck, Andrew John Mitchell, 31, of New Carrollton, Maryland, was arrested for driving under the influence. He was transported to the hospital and was treated and released.

Koziol was also taken to the hospital. His injuries were minor, and he was released.
