ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Maryland has received six bids for five potential slot machine licenses.
Each of the five sites received one bid except one that received two, said Donald Fry, who heads the state's slot machine commission.
Out of 15,000 possible machines at all five sites, the bids seek 10,550 at first, with a total of 13,000 phased in later.
The five sites are in Anne Arundel, Cecil, Worcester and Allegany counties and Baltimore city.
The licenses will be awarded in September. Slots are expected to generate $600 million for the state. Most of that money will go to education with possibly $100 million to help the state's ailing horse racing industry.
