The men attempted to cross Lighthouse Road east of Dukes Road just after 11 p.m. Friday, officials said. The driver of a Jeep Wrangler hit the men, troopers said.

It wasn't clear if the two men were in a crosswalk or if they knew each other, Delaware State Police spokesman Cpl. John Day said Saturday.

The men were identified as 64-year-old Robert J. Rust Jr. of Lutherville, Md., and 45-year-old Grant D. Kinkade Sr. of Westminster, Md. Kinkade died at the scene. Rust was flown to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
