Md. Firefighter Survives Fall Through Floor

Normal 0 A Maryland firefighter is recovering at Washington Hospital Center after suffering 2nd degree burns while battling a fire early Saturday morning.

Crews were called out to the 9000 block of Continental Place in Landover.  They arrived to find a 2-story townhouse on fire.

While battling the blaze, a volunteer firefighter  from the Kentland Fire and EMS station fell from the first floor into the basement.  He escaped under his own power, but suffered significant 2nd degree burns to his back.

The 30-year-old man is described as being in good condition, but will remain at the Burn Unit for additional treatment.

It took 50 firefighters an hour to knock down the blaze.

There were no other injuries from the fire, and authorities are conducting a review of the incident.
