Private jets. Expensive cars. A $3 million home in California.
A husband and wife from Montgomery County, Md., are charged with living a life of luxury through an elaborate fraud.
Shannon and Yvette Johnson of Laytonsville, Md., are accused of posing as a wealthy philanthropists. According to the indictment, the Johnsons offered to invest in religious organizations -- as long as the groups paid a banking fee in advance. The scheme helped the Johnsons collect $3.7 million, according to prosecutors.
However, the money never made it back to the churches. Instead, authorities say, the Johnsons bought expensive cars, traveled on private jets, and spent $18,000 a month to lease a home in California.
The Johnsons are facing a host of charges including fraud and tax evasion.
