Maryland-Bowling Green Football Game Delayed Due to Lightning

Byrd Stadium, home to the University of Maryland football team, was closed for nearly an hour to lightning in the area.

The university’s Facilities, Operations and Events department said on Twitter that fans and teams were evacuated away from the stadium until further notice. The Terps Gameday Twitter account said fans will be able to re-enter the stadium at 2:30 p.m.

StormTeam4's Amelia Segal said the storms producing the lightning are moving to the northeast at 20 mph.

The game restarted with the second half kick off at 2:40 p.m.

Lightning was reported within 10 miles of the stadium. The Terrapins were playing the Bowling Green Falcons. The game was stopped in the second quarter.

Maryland was leading 13-6 at the time of the stoppage.
