Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Alumni Raise $13K for Victims at DC Fundraiser

More than 100 alumni of the Florida high school where a shooter gunned down 17 people gathered in D.C. Tuesday to raise over $13,000 for victims of the horrific mass shooting.

"It's not my Parkland anymore," said Reagan Edgren, an American University freshman who graduated from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas.

"It's not the school I graduated from last year," Edgren continued.

During the shooting, Edgren was texted her sister, who is currently a student at the school. Edgren's sister was inside as the school went on lockdown during the shooting, she said.

She didn't get a response for seven minutes.

"It was the scariest seven minutes of my entire life," Edgren said.

Her sister survived, but Edgren says she was terrified.

Edgren was one of about 130 former students and supporters at the fundraiser, which was held at Georgetown restaurant Tony and Joe's Seafood Place.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser was also in attendance, and criticized Congress for not passing legislation cracking down on guns.

"I am pretty outraged by the lack of action on the part of the Congress to have sensible gun laws in our country," Bowser said.

Many alumni told News4 they would like to see gun control laws passed and said they would attend the March for Our Lives on Saturday, March 24.

The funds will be donated to the Stoneman Douglas Victims Fund, which was established by the Broward County Education Foundation to provide relief and financial support to victims and their families.

A GoFundMe page has already raised more than $2.5 million dollars.

"It reminds me that humanity is OK, even though gun bills aren't passing," Edgren said.
