Marine's Remains Escorted to Virginia

The remains of a Marine killed in Afghanistan this month returned home to Virginia Tuesday afternoon.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is escorting the remains of 28-year-old Sgt. Charles C. Strong, of Suffolk, from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to Covenant Funeral Home in Stafford County.

A member of the U.S. Marine Corps’ elite special command, Strong was killed Sept. 15 in what officials called an apparent insider attack.

According to a GoFundMe page, Strong's wife, Taylor, is expecting a daughter in December. The Massad Family YMCA is also collecting gifts and donations for mother and child.

Strong will be buried with full military honors at Quantico National Cemetery following a funeral service Friday afternoon.
