Marijuana Farm Suspected as Start of Brush Fire

Officials suspect that a fire that burned almost 50 acres of land on Kent Island and forced the evacuation of 20 homes started at a marijuana farm.

Monte Mitchell, of the state Department of Natural Resources Forest Service, told The Capital of Annapolis that investigators have found what may be a marijuana-growing operation. He said a Queen Anne's County drug task force has taken over the investigation of the marijuana farm.

The June 24 blaze fire required at least 200 firefighters to extinguish. Weeks later, the fire is still burning, but contained. Dry weather has kept the fire from burning itself out.
