Manufacturing Plant Explosion Injures One

A southwest Virginia plant explosion sent one worker to the hospital Tuesday.

Fire Department Chief Jim Hardy, says the worker suffered burns to his hands, face, and chest after an industrial oven exploded at the Bluefield Pemco Corporation, a mining industry manufacturing plant.

Pemco representatives are still investigating the cause of the incident, however, they say they are making every effort to ensure employees’ safety.

The worker was treated at a Bristol area hospital for third-degree burns.

According to the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, Pemco Corporation CEO Walter Sowers, said he did not have firsthand knowledge of the employee’s most recent condition. He has not released the worker’s name.
