An airline passenger's day went down the drain when the Transportation Security Administration found an unusual item in their bag Tuesday.
TSA officials at Newark Liberty International Airport used an X-ray machine to spot what looked to be a revolver in a carry-on bag.
A thorough inspection found that the item was not a real firearm, though. It was a "realistic replica gun that had been configured into a toilet paper roller."
The TSA does not allow travelers to bring real or replica firearms through airport checkpoints. An item like this is best in a checked bag, officials advised. TSA offers resources like a "What Can I Bring" feature on the TSA website. And travelers can ask specific questions through Facebook Messenger and on Twitter at @AskTSA.
