Manassas Park Holds Public Meetings on School Calendar Changes

Several community meetings will be held in Manassas Park this month to help determine whether a "year-round" calendar is right for students.

Last year, the school district received a $50,000 grant to study making the calender more flexible. School officials say the result may not be a "true year-round" schedule, but a redistribution of the 180-day calendar.

Their plan includes breaking statewide tradition and starting the school year three weeks before Labor Day. Students would also have more breaks and two intersessions, which provide extra support for student who need it.

Students and parents are encouraged to attend one of three meetings:

  • Saturday, Jan. 24
    10 a.m. to noon
    Manassas Park High School Commons
  • Tuesday, Jan. 27
    7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Manassas Park Community Center Banquet Hall
  • Wednesday, Jan. 28
    7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    Manassas Park High School Commons
