Man on Scooter Hit, Killed by Car; Driver Charged with DUI

A man on a scooter was struck and killed by a car in Rockville, Maryland, late Saturday night.

Montgomery County police said Ross Stanley Redler, 56, of Rockville, was riding his scooter along Rockville Pike when a car attempted to make a turn and collided with Redler. After the collision, the driver of the car, Mark Stevel Andrade, 24, briefly stopped and fled from his vehicle on foot.

Investigators said he was found and arrested for driving under the influence.

Redler was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

Investigators said they will consult with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office to find out if Andrade will be charged with additional offenses.
