Man Who Buried Wife in Backyard in 1991 Sentenced to 30 Years

A man convicted of killing his wife in 1991 and burying her body in the back yard has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Robert Jarrett Jr., 59, of Elkridge was sentenced Thursday in Howard County Circuit Court. He had been convicted of second-degree murder in the death of 34-year-old Christine Jarrett.

Christine Jarrett's body was found buried under the floorboards of a backyard shed in April 2012. Robert Jarrett had reported her missing in 1991, saying she had walked away from home after an argument.

A break came in the case when Robert Jarrett's second wife gave police permission to search the property in 2012.
