Man, 69, Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash Near High School in Fairfax County

A 69-year-old Virginia man was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver near a Fairfax County high school Sunday night.

Zahoor Ali Khan was crossing Franconia Road when he stopped in the unprotected median to wait for passing traffic, Fairfax County Police said. Khan was struck by a westbound vehicle about 10:45 p.m.

The driver did not stop, investigators said.

"We're looking for any information that anyone who may have witnessed the accident to please contact us," Officer Roger Henriquez said.

Khan's body was found in the intersection of Franconia Road and Brooklyn Avenue, near Edison High School in the Alexandria section of the county. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe the striking vehicle was a white full-size van, truck or SUV.

People who live in the area say it's long been a troubled crossroad that should have a traffic light. But there is a light and crosswalk just yards away at the entrance to Edison HIgh School, News4's Derrick Ward reported.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or by texting TIP187 plus their message to CRIMES (274637).
