Man Stabbed Ex-Girlfriend in DC Parking Garage, Dragged Her Down Stairs, Police Say

A man has been charged with assault after he stabbed his ex-girlfriend in a parking garage in the Tenleytown area of Northwest Washington and dragged her down a flight of stairs, court documents say.

Meverard Edward, 26, was arrested Friday and charged with assault with intent to kill, police say.

The victim told investigators she left work about 10:45 p.m. May 15 and was walking to a parking garage in the rear of 4505 Wisconsin Ave. NW to get her car. As she got into her vehicle, Edward got into the passenger's side and began stabbing her in the face, arms and body, police say.

Edward then dragged the victim by her hair down a flight of stairs and to a nearby grassy area, stabbing her along the way, a charging document states.

Edward told the victim he would kill her family if she told anyone what he did, police say. Edward took the woman back to her car, where she asked to be taken to the hospital.

Edward agreed and rode with the victim to Washington Adventis Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland, according to police. Before they arrived, Edward got out of the car in the area of Sligo Creek Parkway and Maple Avenue.

Police caught him three days later.

The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
