Man Shot, Killed Near U Street Music Hall on Violent DC Weekend

Police are investigating five fatal shootings that occurred since Thursday evening

A man was shot and killed early Saturday in the busy U Street Corridor area amid a streak of gun violence in the D.C. area, police say.

Eric Byrd, 34, was on the 1100 block of U Street NW, across the road from U Street Music Hall and near the U Street Metro Station, about 2:45 a.m. when police say Byrd got into an argument with someone.

The suspect then pulled out a gun and shot Byrd multiple times, police said.

No one else was injured, according to police. Video from the scene shows police cars blocking off the busy stretch of U Street, and a crowd of bystanders behind police tape.

D.C. Police have been investigating a string of fatal shootings over the past several days.

One person was killed and another was hurt in two separate shootings on the 3000 block of 30th Street SE, near Buena Vista Terrace, on Saturday, according to police. One unnamed victim suffered injuries that are not life-threatening in a shooting about 1 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Hours later, about 3:45 a.m., police returned to the same area and found a man who had been shot multiple times. Delwaun Lyons, 23, of Southeast, D.C., was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

On Thursday, 11-year-old Karon Brown was killed in Southeast amid a fight between several adults.

On Friday, a father and son were found dead by a relative in their Northeast D.C. apartment, police say. They had been shot several times, but it's unclear when. A man was also shot on the platform at the Shaw-Howard University Metro platform, but is expected to survive.
