Man Shoots Brother at Mom's House

A dispute over noise leads to murder

A man living at his mother’s home in Frederick County, Md., allegedly killed his brother while inside their mother’s kitchen.

Maryland State Police said Allen Nichols, 45, is now charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his 43-year-old brother, Terry. Both lived at the home.

Another disturbing detail is why he allegedly did it. According to WHAG-TV, Terry Nichols was reportedly on the first floor of the home off of Knoxville Road talking with his mother and other visitors around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.

“They heard the accused [Allan Nichols] banging on the floor of his upstairs bedroom and said they were aware he was apparently upset over the noise they were making,” police said in a release obtained by WHAG-TV.

Minutes later the elder Nichols brother allegedly went downstairs and met his brother, who had gone into the kitchen, police said.

The two began to argue about the noise, which is when witnesses heard a gunshot.

Officers arrived at the home to find Terry Nichols shot in the head, police said. His brother was upstairs.

Allen Nichols is being held in jail without bond.
