Man Robs CVS With Syringe

Man threatened pharmacist with syringe

A man with a syringe robbed a pharmacy of prescription drugs in Ellicott City, Howard County Police say.

The suspect entered a CVS on the 3300 block of Centennial Lane around 4:20 a.m. Thursday and walked over to the pharmacy counter. Authorities say he then threatened the pharmacist with a syringe, demanding prescription mediation, which the pharmacist gave him.

This particular pharmacy was the location of a similar crime in April 2011. The suspect approached a CVS customer leaving the store, implied he had a weapon, and demanded the customer's prescription pain medication.

Police later determined the suspect had been working with two women inside the store who were watching customers pick up their medication. They then signaled to the suspect which customer to target, authorities said.

David Loren Neighoff of Baltimore pleaded guilty to one count of robbery in that case. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison with all but five years suspended.

Susan Schmoltiz pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, and was sentenced to five years in prison with all but 18 months suspended.

The charges against the second woman were dropped.
