The Charles County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fatal shooting of a man in La Plata, Md.
Officers responded to the Phoenix Run neighborhood for the report of gunshots Saturday before midnight, authorities said. They found 31-year-old Melvin Wayne Brown of Indian Head. He had been shot and was pronounced dead on the scene, officials said.
Detectives are trying to determine a motive. The sheriff's office is asking any witnesses to come forward with information.
