Man Killed In I-95 Hit-And-Run

Police interviewing driver of Hyundai SUV

Police in Fairfax County have arrested a 19-year-old woman in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that took place on Interstate 95 just after midnight Saturday.

The accident happened on the northbound side of the highway at mile marker 162, investigators say.

Clarence E. Alston, 42, had pulled over onto the highway's right shoulder and was standing next to his vehicle, when he was struck and killed.

Authorities say he was hit by a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV allegedly driven by Carol Rood-Johnson, 19, of Woodbridge, Va.

Alston was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police located the SUV in Prince George's County, Maryland. After a period of questioning, investigators say that Rood-Johnson was charged with driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run. Additional charges are pending.

The northbound side of I-95 was closed for approximately nine hours while authorities investigated the scene.
