Man Fatally Shot After Shooting Victim's Funeral in Suitland

A man has died after being shot following the Prince George's County funeral of another shooting victim.

Mshairi Alkebular Jr., of Southeast D.C., was shot Monday afternoon near Deliverance Headquarters For All People church in Suitland, Maryland. He was 24. County police said Tuesday that he died of his injuries Monday night.

A fight broke out Monday after a funeral service for Eric Byrd, a 34-year-old who was shot and killed on U Street NW in Washington, D.C. on July 20.

Video from a surveillance camera shows people spilling out of the church on Suitland Road at about 1 p.m.

As police officers responded to a report of a fight, they heard gunshots.

About 200 yards down Suitland Road, someone opened fire on a blue Toyota sedan. Alkebular was critically injured. Two other people arrived at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. And a fourth person received a possible bullet graze wound, police said.

Detectives are working to determine what happened after the funeral. Information was not immediately released on the relationship between Alkebular and Byrd.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact police.
