Man Gets Run Over in Attempt to Get Back Stolen Phone

A parking lot fight over a stolen phone turned violent Friday morning, as one man was charged with attempted murder and another transported to Shock Trauma.

According to police, the victim, a 64-year-old man went to P.W.'s Sports Bar and Grille in the 9800 block of Washington Boulevard in Laurel Friday morning around 9 a.m. to see if anyone had turned in his cell phone he left behind at the bar the night before. After the bartender told him the cell phone was nowhere to be found inside, the victim called it to see if anyone would answer.

Police say 21-year-old Travon Millar of Laurel answered that call, agreed to meet the victim in the bar's parking lot and would give him back his cell phone in exchange for money.

Once he arrived, Millar threw the 64-year-old to the ground, then a witness grabbed Millar off the victim, police said. Millar then went to his car,  but the witness and the victim stood by in an effort to stop him from leaving. Police said Millar, still in possession of the phone, then accelerated, running over the 64-year-old man with the left driver's side tire and sped from the scene.

The witness managed to jump out of Millar's way, police said.

He was later pulled over and charged with two counts each of first and second degree attempted murder, first and second degree assault, destruction of property, failing to stay at the scene of a motor vehicle accident with injury and several traffic offenses.

The victim was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma and is now listed in stable condition.
