A community gathered to mourn the death of a 32-year-old man found dead in Langley Park Wednesday.
Officers say the body of Miguel Barillas was found in the street in the 8000 block of 15th Avenue about 4 a.m. Wednesday near the CASA de Maryland offices. Police say Barillas, who had upper body trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A vigil in his honor was held Wednesday evening, organized by CASA de Maryland.
"We are very sad of this situation because Miguel was a very nice person," Gustavo Torres, director of CASA de Maryland, said. "We still don't know what happened. We are calling our community. If they know anything, please communicate with police."
Barillas moved to Prince George's County more than 2 years ago and worked as a landscaper. He sent money back to his wife and two children in Guatemala.
"We have no clue for the reason for the crime and we're actively trying to ascertain how it happened and why," Capt. David Lloyd with Prince George's County police said.
Police say a reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this slaying. Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide unit at 301-772-4925.
