Man Forced Into the Trunk of His Car During Armed Carjacking in DC

A man was forced into the trunk of his car during an armed carjacking early Wednesday morning, D.C. police said.

Shortly before 2 a.m. a man was parking his car in the 1100 block of Shepherd Road NW when he bumped another vehicle, prompting two men to approach.

“The two guys that were walking down the street saw that, and they came back, and then they were like, ‘You hit my car. You hit my car,’” said the woman who was the passenger in the car.

But that was a ruse to catch the victims off guard.

One of the men pulled out a handgun and demanded money, police said.

The woman got out of the car, but the man with the gun pointed the gun at her and told her to get back in the car, police said.

“And the next thing I’m hearing is, ‘Get in the trunk. Get in the trunk,’” she said. “I didn’t see that part happening but I heard it all happen.”

The driver was struck in the face with the handgun and forced into the trunk, police said.

The man with the gun got in the driver’s seat while the man he was with got in the back, police said. The man with the gun pointed it at the woman and asked, “Where we gonna go, baby?” police said.

“That’s when I hopped out of the car, and I was screaming on the phone with 911,” she said.

Police found the car a short time later in the 7400 block of 9th Street NW.

“I don’t know what would have happened if I stayed in the car,” the woman said.

The driver was still in the trunk when police found it.

Police have surveillance video of two persons of interest in the case.
