Bystanders rescued a man who fell into the Potomac River while trying to take a selfie Sunday evening, Montgomery County fire officials say.
The good Samaritans saw the man fall off of Olmstead Island near Great Falls and got him out of the water before rescue crews arrived, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer said. A helicopter also responded to the scene.
Medics took the man to a hospital with serious injuries, Piringer said.
