Man Falls 15 Feet in Sidewalk Grate Collapse in Arlington

A man fell 15 feet when a piece of steel grating covering a sidewalk collapsed in Arlington Wednesday morning.

The man was walking from one building to another in the area of 950 N. Glebe Road in Ballston when the grate collapsed beneath his feet, reported News4's Chris Gordon.

The man suffered injuries that to appeared to be non-life-threatening, reported News4's Chris Gordon, including rib injuries, bumps and bruises.

ArlNow.com reported the victim is a man in his 50s who was on his way to a meeting when he fall just before 10 a.m. He fell about 15 feet into a ventilation shaft, landing on a concrete ledge, according to ArlNow.com.

Arlington Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and extricated him from the hole. He was then transported to a local hospital.
