Man Found Dead at Arlington National Cemetery Was Retired Air Force Colonel

A man who apparently committed suicide at Arlington National Cemetery last week was a 92-year-old retired Air Force colonel, officials said.

Cemetery spokeswoman Melissa Bohan identified him as Robert Terrill of Falls Church, Virginia.

Terrill's body was found Friday in the section that contains a memorial to and remains of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon.

The Army said the man was found with a single gunshot wound and that they did not suspect foul play.

"Although we have not completely ruled it out in order to conduct a complete and thorough investigation, we do not suspect foul play at this point in the investigation," said Chris Grey, the spokesman for the Army's Criminal Investigation Command, which is leading the investigation.

The area of the cemetery overlooks the Pentagon's west side, where hijackers crashed a commercial airliner into the U.S. Department of Defense headquarters.
