Man Convicted in Witness Retaliation Case

Witnesses in Scottie Beats murder trial killed

A jury found a man guilty in a retaliation conspiracy case related to the slaying of music producer Scottie Beats.

Rashaad Alexis was found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of obstruction of justice for retaliation.

His brother, Jamal Alexis, was accused and eventually convicted of the murder of Beats. Rashaad Alexis was accused of killing two people scheduled to testify in his brother’s trial.

“Our community will not tolerate retaliation against witnesses,” Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said. “Without citizens willing to come forward and testify about criminal acts, our criminal justice system would literally collapse.”

Rashaad Alexis faces life in prison without parole plus 40 years when he is sentenced in April.

Beats was shot and killed on Oct. 13, 2006, as he tried to prevent the theft of his vehicle, which was being towed away by thieves.
