Man Charged in Yoga Teacher's Death Was Not Wearing Ordered GPS Monitor

Court records show that GPS monitoring was ordered last week for the Maryland man now charged in the death of D.C. yoga teacher and actress Tricia McCauley, who went missing on Christmas Day.

But police spokeswoman Karimah Bilal said Wednesday that Adrian Duane Johnson was not wearing a monitor when he was arrested.

Johnson was charged with theft earlier this month, and online court records show he was released Dec. 20. After Johnson's attorney said he could not be screened for mental health court under high-intensity supervision, he was ordered to enroll in GPS monitoring. The record does not say whether he appeared.

Johnson is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of McCauley, who was found dead in her car Monday.

The attorney listed in the theft case did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

D.C. Interim Police Chief Peter Newsham said in an appearance Wednesday on NewsChannel 8 that Johnson is receiving medical treatment.

Newsham did not specify what Johnson is being treated for but said he will appear in court when he is able.

In 2016, Johnson was charged once with assault on a police officer, once with assault, five times with theft and once with robbery. He most recently was charged on Dec. 17 for alleged thefts at Meridian PCS and CVS stores.
